BÁRBARA – Tudo que não pode ser
The work is a little installation where two customized Barbie dolls are the protagonists. That installatios is a 43cm X 43cm X 32cm box, whith “mandalas” made of the doll’s images printed on the external surfaces.
In the box you find the two customized dolls and behind them you can see a vídeo projection from a a mini projector placed in front of the box.
The 2’25”stop motion movie play in looping and show the customized dolls an their original version in unusual details and extreme movements guided by the sounds of a synthesizer. The strange sounds reinforces the strange movements on the video.
The title “BÁRBARA – Tudo que não pode ser” (BÁRBARA – Everething you can’t be) is in opposition to the famous Barbies brasilian slogan “Everything you want to be”.
This work question the social idea that women have to follow determined standards.
The mandalas outside the box are the representation of thefemale energy in motion: admirable even when misunderstood. It remember us that what is outside is just a part of what's on the inside. Inside the box, the video projection on the dolls themselves represents the questions, anxieties and insecurities of someone who wants to be herself.
