Women's market value on the agenda

Hanne Margaretha Biedilæ - Norway

I like to document the present we live in and in this case the inspiration is taken from the news picture. Two Norwegian psychologists created great engagement and debate when they advised a woman in the late forties to assess her own market value in relation to which men she wanted to meet. At the same time, a profiled Swedish cultural editor came with a statement that she would not participate in television debates because she does not want to show how old she has become.

I have approached the subject with humor and irony where the intention is to promote the position of women in society and empower women when I explores the difference between men and women in society.

I have used references of work by Helen Frankenthaler, Helene Schjerfbeck, Edvard Munch and Charlotte Wankel as inspiration. Philosophically I use Simone de Beauvoir and her works "The Other Sex" and "The Coming of Age».
