In my work entitled, "Synesthesia of Time" i aimed at creating a multimedia visualization of human perception of time during their lifetime.
I was intrigued by the sense of time passing slower when we are children and accelerating as we get older.
It happens mainly because we get more and more used to our surroundings and norms of the society. Later in life, we often get stuck in a rut and each day seems to flow faster.
The audio, which I mixed myself, is here a representation of our sense of time, since our birth till our death. In the video, i depicted the constantly changing tempo and feeling of the audio.
By visualizing the sound (which here symbolizes time) I made use of synesthesia, which is experiencing one of the senses through another. Hence the title of this work.
The circle in the middle is representing our perception of time in reaction to the surrounding. It also symbolizes the cyclicality of life and nature.
At the beginning of life, everything is totally new for us. We are overwhelmed by the amount of stuff we are being exposed to. Then, our brains need more time to process it, and as a result the sense of time slows down, that's the paradox.
The exact opposite happens when we get older. We get used to things and situations and it causes the sense of time to speed up.
I recorded a lot of short experimental videos in vivid colour combinations, using a variety of mediums, to better showcase the contrast between the two main planes of the whole video.
Video as a whole is to illustrate the cyclical nature of time. The beginning and end of e.g. our life is in a broader perspective only conventional because the cyclical nature of life is infinite.
