Ahla Chun - Korea (south)

Excursions are the process of getting to know nature and humans. On excursions, you can see numerous natural landscapes and at the same time experience the life and sorrows of people living in them. By witnessing the details of daily lives of people living in harmony with nature, and conversing with them and thinking about them, they realize the meaning of life.

Nature is the most important motif that reveals the psychology of the world I am facing. Nature always rules my mind and is the medium through which I think about the world. The stillness or silence makes the disturbance known. Silence in nature is tranquility in the mind. Tranquility is a state of embracing troubled emotions and floating impatience.

To me, the shape of the work symbolizes the round moon. When the earth, heated with light, gradually hides the light, and when darkness and night comes that nothing can be seen, I stare at the only round moon that shines in the quiet night. The light from the moon  reminisces about the memories I have experienced, and by doing so, my past becomes the present painted on the canvas and the future that will be delivered to the audience.

Water flowing over the canvas freely spreads and pools. Asian painting paints that meet water to add deep light, acrylics with thick texture, and solid pigments that do not dissolve in water merge as if numerous streams of water are gathered into one stream on a canvas. The work that minimizes the intervention of drawing reveals an unknown utopia exists in unconsciousness hidden under recognition and awareness, beyond typical compositions.
