Ralph Hackeland - Germany

painting
A man paints red stripes on the dead body of a headless tuna. He seems concentrated and tense as if this strange action is part of his daily work. This impression is supported by his clothes and the tiled room in which he stands - a professional at work here. But what should the painting do? It could be a reference to the bloody business of overfishing, but also an attempt at label fraud. Or does the painter want to make the fish inedible in order to save the species from extinction? However, it is already too late for this fish. The man becomes the allegory of the painter, the artist, who is at a loss and yet stoically pursues his path - in the knowledge that his actions bring about change, no matter how small...
